Another wonderful book from AKM Miles. The love really shines through in this book, if I could I would give it 10 stars.I can't to see what comes next in the Scarcity Sanctuary Series.
This book gutted me. Knowing that there would be a happy ending, I mean come on she wouldn't be mean, I still felt gutted when Soldier was captured and he was alone. Seeing him later in the book...well it has a happy ending that's all I can say. I don't want to give away anything, you will just have to read it.
It was hard seeing Soldier and Dillon apart and knowing what they were going through. Scarcity doesn't work without Soldier!! However, we get to see old favorites and how the entire family pulls together when one of their own is in trouble. I swear, the bad men should just stop trying,

When Solider fails to contact Dillon after flying to Denver to meet a former member of his platoon who Soldier had assumed was dead, Dillon immediately knows something is terribly wrong. Soldier would never fail to contact Dillon for two hours, never mind two days. So Dillon calls “the boys” for help, his foster children—specifically the group of the original seven boys he and Soldier had when they first got together to form Scarcity Sanctuary.
Everyone always relies on Soldier to give them the safety and security they need. The boys who are fostered by Dillon and Soldier are always very troubled children who have had dangerous or abusive lives before coming into their care. In earlier stories, it was always Soldier who came to their aid, but this time, they step up to the plate to take care of Dillon and go to rescue Soldier from his apparent captivity.
Looking back on my review of Soldier, the first story in this series, I discovered I had said “I liked the story but felt that there was so much more potential for full character and plot development that wasn't utilized. There was no angst at all, no depth to the story.” I could easily repeat the same statement as a summary of my review for Missing Soldier. I haven’t read any of the books since the first, but I had hoped that since this is book eight in the series, it would have substantially improved. After all, to get to book eight, one must have a following of readers who like the storyline, and to get an average of 3.75 to 4.0 on most of the books, those who read it obviously really enjoy it, right? Well, there’s no doubt they are enjoyable, but that’s because there’s no angst, no deep plot development, and the two MCs are lovey-dovey-kissy-face-sweet with each other all the time.
I’m disappointed that the story was only surface deep. I had hoped for so much more. The person responsible for Soldier’s disappearance <spoiler>did nothing more than give him minimal food and water for survival which </spoiler> kept him subdued, so the opportunity for drama was missed. The “rescue” was simplistic and again without drama or complexity. And his reunion with Dillon? Sweet, of course.
If you like this series, I’m sure you will like this one too. If you are looking for a simple, sweet romance between two men who care for and about others, raising their foster family, and providing them a safe haven, you will love this series. If you want drama, angst, complex mysteries with a depth of emotion, this is neither the story, nor the series for you.
I've read every book in the series and loved them all. I hope there are more to come !
